NOS Vs. reproduction

7/12/2019

Took this photo today to help show the difference between my NOS PORSCHE emblem and a fresh/new one from one of the major Porsche parts suppliers.  First, I want to say that I think the reproduction one represents itself well, and the suppliers of this can be proud of the item they sell and the value of the emblem.  They did a good job.
Relative strength aside, there are a couple of "tells" on how to know if one is NOS or reproduction.  In the photos below, the NOS one is in the top photo.
Note the difference of the background.  The little pebbles on the reproduction one are more like grains of sand in the original.
On the backside, most people look for the symbol R.  Certainly that is a way to tell, but also look at the mounting posts.  New ones are smooth- original show marks from tooling.
NOS one goes on Miss April, even though it has some shelf wear.
