Yesterday I loaded the car on the trailer and took her to the body and paint shop. Reviewed the need for hood repair and a couple of small spots that needed extra attention. I now get to shop around for single stage Irish Green paint while he takes the car down to bare metal. With the car gone, I am now focused on the items I have removed from the car. I started with the fuel supply. Upon removing the fuel selector valve, I found a clogged mess. Surprised the car ran at all. With that introduction, I took the float out of the tank (top sender) and looked inside the tank. Looks to have been coated as some point and the coating is coming off. I took a long screwdriver and with very little pressure could scrape some off. Photos below. Looks like I need to find something to chemically remove the coating. I suspect damage because of ethanol. After some cleaning, the fuel selector valve looks nice, but I need to buy the soft parts to install. I guess this all could be worse- it could be rusty but I don't see that kind of an issue here.

Got a little closer today, but not much time spent on Miss April. Did remove the original glove box door bumpers and photographed them. I will try to reinstall them after paint as the reproduction ones are not at all the same shape. Photos below.

Having dealt with Mr. Mouse, I managed to get the engine mounted on the stand and wiped down a little. It will get serious cleaining while the car is at the paint shop.
Moved on to removing everything from the dash. Got the dash pad off, handle off, and all gauges except one. It is really stuck in there! I have all the wiring diagrams, but I still like to take photos to help with reassembly. Note the gauge is dated 2.65 which fits with the other dates and date codes on the car. Ashtray out, windshield out, stopped for the day. We bought this car in July of 2017 and I thought I'd try to add a Blog to the website to list some of the repair/restoration in chronological order. Just testing the water at this point.
Recently took the engine out of the car and will now tackle removing everything in order to take the car for hood repair and a full bare metal paint job. Will also paint the dash, so lots to remove. Photo below shows the contact paper on the top of the ash tray bracket. After removing the engine, I found a mouse nest (and mouse) on top of the transmission. Photos below. |
