Having owned Porsche cars for over 40 years now, I realize my interests cover a broad range of things.  Seems most people think that Porsche owners are people with big ego's, trying to show off, and driving over the speed limit.  Hopefully I do not fall into either of those categories!  My interests are quite different and fall into some general categories shortly described below.
Driving:  I love to drive the 356 more than the 911's or 912's I have owned.  It is much more fun for me to be so actively engaged in the control of the car, even at street speeds.  I am not interested in going over the speed limit, and could care less if others see me in the car.  In fact, a road with no one else around is the best road to be on.
Restoration/Maintenance:  I have not had a car worked on for electrical or mechanical or service needs in decades.  I don't do paint, so that was done by others, but I enjoy being in the garage getting things to work as originally designed.  It is pleasurable and I take my time now that the cars are not daily drivers.
Student:  I really like learning about the 356 cars.  In fact, the minutia that would not be of interest to many other owners is of great interest to me.  The history of the cars, how they were made, and details of construction are all things that after all this time I still learn about regularly.
Supplier:  I do enjoy putting the original artwork on to generator/fan belts for other 356 and early 911/912 owners.  Certainly wish they would buy more, but I do appreciate the owners who have purchased from me and it's great when they respond so kindly with complimentary comments or photos.  This has been happening recently on the 356 Registry Forum in this string of posts.
Collector:  I'm much more of a collector now than before.  I enjoy original period items from the factory or authorized by the factory back in the 50's and 60's.  I have a strong collection/library of factory issued publications that show in the Documents Section, but I also collect things like dishes, models, Ulmer Keramik ceramic, and more.
The inspiration for this blog post is the item shown below.  Just bought it and it's condition is spectacular.  No reason to own it except for being a "collector"
