Not having NOS Friday this week.  Just a Thursday restoration post.  I am starting to restore the "eyes" of Miss April- the Headlights.  There will be several posts, showing that in fact the headlights are original to the car and how I restore them to things of beauty.
So, here is the first photo.  Of course, this time I forgot to take a "before" shot.
The headlight rings were removed from the car and then the mounting tabs removed.  For 356 C there were two rivets, NOT one, and the adjusting screws were at 1 and 7 o'clock.
The rings were sent to a chrome house and the mounting tabs went out for zinc plating.  Once returned, the tabs were again secured with proper size chrome rivets.
New rubber was purchased.  The original rubber around the glass was ivory, not black in color.  Only the headlight to body seal was black.
Ready for the next step, cleaning and painting the housing in the exact same color as original.  I'll save that for a later posting.

Hi Paul
Very nice work on your headlights! I’m assuming you are not going to paint the bottom of the inserts that have the date stamps? I do want to add that adjusting screws at “2 and 7” only appear on 65Cs. 64Cs have them at 5 and 7. The change may not have come exactly at the model change, though.

Thanks Jim! You are correct, I will paint only the surfaces that show. The back side/underside that has the Hella logo and date code will be left as is.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!!
